30th Anniversary Of Michael Jordan’s 63-Point Game vs. Celtics

Tonight we will all see a collection of some of the best talent that the NBA has to offer. LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love welcome Reggie Jackson and Andre Drummond to the Quicken Loans Arena; Dwyane Wade and Hasaan Whiteside take on Kemba Walker and Jeremy Lin down in beautiful South Beach; And Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and Deandre Jordan go to battle against the young dynamic duo of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum but I am sure none of their performances’ will compare to the one that took place 30-years ago.

Thirty years ago today, young Chicago Bulls star Michael Jordan lit up the Boston Celtics for an NBA playoff record 63 points. Michael, just in his second season in the league burdened with the challenge of going up against the likes of Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Danny Ainge and company. However, if you know anything about Jordan you know he enjoyed these challenges more than anything else. Everybody was counting him out? Perfect.

The 23-year-old Bulls guard shot 23/41 from the floor and 19/21 from the charity stripe in his record-breaking night. Taking into consideration that this was against a Celtics team that went a remarkable 40-1 at home through the season. While his big night wasn’t enough to carry the Bulls to victory, it was certainly a performance for the ages.
