A majority of the people who use the overhead dumbbell press in their shoulder training days tend to perform the movement while being seated. Some might even believe that the overhead press is only to be performed while in a seated position but as you obviously know, that is not true. As performing the overhead dumbbell press while standing actually provides benefits that you won’t get when performing it seated. Performing the standing variation of the press forces you to engage more core muscles to maintain your balance and control the weight you are using. Providing for a more challenging version of the overhead dumbbell press and a better all-around movement.
